There comes a time when you stop for just a moment and realize you are just where you were meant to be. Growing up you change your mind all the time about what you want to be when you grow up. You fantasize about who you are going to be and how awesome it will be. This is all pre having to pay bills of course! My moment happened this year and it was like one of those slow motion movie moments. I was sitting in the back seat of the truck, my long blonde hair was flowing around like one of those shampoo commercials, I took a deep breath of mountain air and I could feel my cheeks starting to hurt from smiling so much. Elizabeth Cook’s song, “Sometimes it takes balls to be a woman” song was blasting over the radio. Steinbach was playing air guitar next to me, Ben was playing the drums and we had a front chorus from Steve and Dirk. I was singing with a horrible fake country accent but smelled so beautifully like fresh bull elk. We had just packed out our client and front chorus member, Steve Doudt’s elk. It was an amazing moment, a picture perfect ending to an incredible hunt and journey! I had become a licensed Wyoming guide only a few months prior. Before that, I had only dreamed what it would be like to be a guide. It was something I had wanted to do for years and finally my dreams were coming true. This year was a true testament to never giving up on your dreams. It doesn’t matter who says you cant do that. Ignore those people, they’re just jealous! The best thing you can do to those people is keep on rocking and let your success speak for itself. I got that satisfaction with my first solo guided clients. The moment my 70 something year old client pulled that trigger and I watched that bull elk drop, I got chills all over my body. That feeling was what I live for! So whether your dream is to be a guide or to kill a big bull elk, whatever your dream may be, keep pushing through with all your might. Eventually, everything will line up! Dreams and goals are what keep us going and I am finally living my dream. I only killed one deer this season for myself but I would call it the most successful hunting season of my life!
I want to thank Dirk, our amazing owner for taking a chance on me. Guides, after all, are the face of the business!
I also want to thank all of our clients this year for putting up with me and being patient with me. Oh and thank you for showing me my dreams have come true! I look forward to hunting with all of you again!
